After more than two years of planning and fund raising the wall was opened in grand style by Mike Turner, husband of our fromer President Viv, the wall was named in Viv's honour as she had been such a tremendous supporter
of the Group.
Over 150 guests joined with us to witness a trumpet fanfare and unvieling of a plaque.
Following the opening, a Beaver, Cub, Scout and Explorer were asked to climb the wall
and unveil a brass bell at the top of the wall which has been named "Badgers Challenge" in memory of Viv.
Guests then joined leaders in a glass of wine to toast the new wall and at 12:00pm the young members of the group
then embarked on a 24 hour climbing marathon with the challenge being to climb the wall the equivalent height of Mount Everest: 8,840m. We anticipated the climb would be difficult to achieve in under 24 hours but due to
the amazing efforts and enthusiasm of the children they achieved it in 12 hours 3 minutes.
The wall opening was actually covered by international Scout Radio, presented by two of our Explorers: Josh and Elliot.
Professionally recorded, a timelapsed show of the opening and 24 hour Everest challenged was presented in a one hour show broadcast a week after the event, dicussing the opening with leaders and Scouts, dicussing the most prominent topics on the 1st Facebook
Scout Group and touching on Elliot's Japan Jamboree Campaign! If you missed the show, you can listen again here: https://soundcloud.com/scoutradio/4th-littlehampton-scout-group
